THIS was to be the best weekend EVER. And while it was really, really good…the weather sure made it difficult to love. Baconpalooza and the Beer Run were both events happening outside and all it did all weekend long was be cold and rainy. UGH. Buuuut, let’s be honest, I still ate bacon, ran and drank beer so it was still pretty darn good!
The thing is…while this festival was celebrating EATING pig, the main tone of it was supporting local farmers, sustainable & ethical practices, etc. I think what is sold in grocery stores is worth protesting about much more than this festival, but whatever, they just made it that much more memorable. As I said, it was raining…the entire time…so we walked around to see what the vendors had, sampled their products…
Then we got some food as it was lunch time…but we (I) was way too cold to stay there any longer so we got in his car where I enjoyed my bacon grilled cheese & caramelized onion sandwich. My mouth waters just remembering it…
Sunday morning I had plans to get up for a proper run before the Beer Run, but when my alarm went off I could hear the rain pouring outside and I instead, stayed in bed and talked to a friend for 2 hours on the phone. I can’t remember the last time I had such a lazy morning…it was awesome. But then it was time to get ready for the Beer Run (our wave started at 12:30pm)!!
My friend Jane and I each wore our special socks for the occasion!
The Run started off at the Lowertown Brewery where we enjoyed ONE (small) cup of beer
and then we headed off (running…jogging…walking…it’s really not a race)
to the Clocktower Brew Pub where we again enjoyed ONE (small) cup of their Pumpkin Ale.
Next stop was the 3 Brewers – this was the BEST stop because a) the beers were served in larger cups AND they weren’t guarding the beers so we had more than one – I enjoyed their Copper and their Blonde.
The final stop was the “finish line” at Beyond the Pale where we were given ONE (small) cup of beer.
Are you picking up on a theme here? When we did this run 2 years ago, we had unlimited beer at each of the breweries. No one got messy drunk as there isn’t enough time at each stop to drink THAT much (plus, you know you have to run/jog to the next destination) and so the overall atmosphere was super fun and happy. This year, while it was still fun, the stinginess with the beer (which I’m sure is done for legal reasons) really affected the overall atmosphere. The weather probably didn’t help either
Kyle (who had ended up racing…AND WINNING…a 10k earlier in the morning) took advantage of the recovery tent alonside Ron. I’m not really sure what they were recovering from, but they enjoyed the pampering.
Also hung out with twitter friend Rebecca in the finish area!!
