If you read this blog somewhat regularly, you probably know that this past year has been challenging for me personally. And it’s only within the past 2 months that I’ve really realized how much and just how it has affected all parts of my life. Some good (my running is really strong right now) and some not so good. I came to the realization in the past 2 weeks, that I had stopped taking care of some things around the house…I had just let them slide. Like I just didn’t care enough. If you know me at all, that is NOT me. And it was sobering to realize and admit it. It was like coming out of a fog.
As I mentioned yesterday, I was super productive this past weekend with chores around the house – this was the result of my coming out of the fog. I sat down and made a list of all the things around the house that I needed to get back under control (ok, there were a few extras like paint my toenails…but really, you could argue that being just as important as anything else, right?!). Can I tell you how good it felt to cross one task/chore after another off the list? And how good it felt to look around my house and feel like it represented me again? There were a few that I couldn’t get done because it was raining outside ALL DAY LONG on Sunday, so I tackled one of them last night: the back patio.
HOW did I let it get this way, with weeds and moss growing out of the cracks??? (I was too embarrassed to take and post a pic of the entire patio) But an hour later, it was looking SO much better. Of course, I had Abby “supervising” me the whole time!!
It felt really good to have got that done – and of course, I took a moment (or 20) to enjoy my backyard and CLEAN patio on a beautiful summer evening (note the freshly painted toenails – chore #18).
Woke up to a very overcast sky this morning with the smell of rain in the air. Abby and I got our walk done and I headed out into chilly temps of 59F (lol – I know, but it FEELS cold in July!!) and had a great 7 mile run (7:30 min/mile) with light rain…don’t tell anyone I said this, but the weather was really perfect for running this morning! 🙂
Because you are now experts in lockstations and are just as excited about them as I am – here is a pic of the lockstation I passed over today – this one has 3 locks and I’m taking this pic from the middle lock. As I think I’ve said before, I would only swim in that water if I wanted another appendage to grow out of me!
Am meeting 2 girlfriends from grad school (I had drinks with them a few weeks ago) for dinner tonight at my FAVORITE Thai place. I can’t wait…am hungry just thinking about it!!
Do you like to run in the rain?
I like running in it, but not starting out when it’s raining!
What’s your favorite type of food?
